C-Bus Scene
Not Working
Wrong Lights. No Trigger. Dead Schedule.
C-Bus scenes not triggering, schedules stopped running, wrong lights responding to a scene button, or scenes that worked fine and then suddenly changed? Scene faults are almost always a programming problem — not a hardware failure. We diagnose and fix from the live C-Bus network.

Why C-Bus Scenes
Stop Working
Programming Corruption or Loss
Scene data stored in the C-Bus network can be lost or corrupted after a power event, network reset or an accidental overwrite during a programming session. We recover what's readable from each unit and rebuild what's missing.
Post-Renovation Mismatch
The most common cause of scene faults in established properties. A renovation electrician moves or adds circuits without updating the C-Bus programming — scenes now trigger the wrong lights, or new circuits appear in no scene at all.
Scheduler Clock Reset
If the controller powering the scheduling application lost AC power for an extended period, the real-time clock resets to a default date/time. Schedules then fire at wrong times or not at all. A simple clock reset and re-verification fixes this.
Controller or Scheduler Unit Failure
The unit running the scheduling application (homeGate, Wiser hub or dedicated scheduler unit) can fail. If schedules have completely stopped and the clock is correct, the scheduler unit itself may be the fault.
What to Do
Right Now
Don't try to reprogram it yourself
Attempting to fix scenes without C-Bus Toolkit access and accreditation usually makes things worse — overwriting remaining good programming. Leave the system as-is.
Note what changed before the fault
Did a tradesperson do work recently? Was there a power outage? Did the problem start after a specific button press? This information pinpoints the fault quickly.
Check if hardware is still responding
Can you manually operate any lights via their output units? If outputs are responding but scenes aren't, it's definitively a programming fault.

How do I know if the C-Bus power supply has failed versus something else?
The clearest sign of a PSU failure is that all or most switches go dead simultaneously. If only one zone is affected, the fault is more likely in that zone's relay output unit or wiring. If ghost messages preceded the outage, that's a PSU failure profile. We confirm on-site with voltage testing.
Can you replace a failed C-Bus PSU on the same day?
In most cases, yes. We carry common C-Bus PSU models including the 5500PSUA and 5500PSUAD. If your site has an older or unusual PSU model, we'll source it from Schneider's distribution network and return promptly.
How long do C-Bus power supplies last?
The rated capacitor lifespan is typically 10–15 years. Real-world service life varies with operating temperature, load, and environmental conditions. PSUs from 2004–2012 are now well past their rated lifespan and are actively failing across Sydney.
My C-Bus was doing random switching before it stopped — is that related to the PSU?
Yes. Random switching (ghost messages) is one of the classic symptoms of a degrading PSU. As the output voltage becomes unstable, corrupted data packets appear on the network and are interpreted as commands by relay units. This is the precursor to complete PSU failure.
What happens if I leave a failing PSU in service?
A failing PSU can continue to damage adjacent network units by feeding them unstable voltages over time. It can corrupt network addresses in active units and — in the worst case — a shorted PSU can create a low-impedance path that stresses or damages multiple units downstream.
Do you cover the whole of Sydney for C-Bus PSU replacement?
Yes — Greater Sydney including CBD, Eastern Suburbs, North Shore, Northern Beaches, Inner West, Sutherland Shire, St George, Hills District, Parramatta and Western Sydney.
