C-Bus keypad completely dead, buttons not responding, LEDs not lighting, or only some buttons working? C-Bus keypad faults are often misdiagnosed as wiring problems. The cause is almost always network, power or programming — not the keypad itself. Get it diagnosed right.

What's Your C-Bus
Keypad Doing?

Tick everything that applies — we'll tell you how serious it is.

Network-wide fault — call now. Multiple dead keypads or no power on the segment almost always means PSU failure. Call 0422 469 739 — we carry replacement PSUs.
Network or programming fault. The keypad is likely communicating but something upstream is broken. Call for a same-day diagnosis.
Wiring or configuration issue. Likely resolvable on-site — call to book a visit.

Why C-Bus Keypads
Stop Working

Power Supply Failure

If multiple keypads on the same bus segment have gone dead simultaneously, the cause is almost always the C-Bus PSU. The keypad receives its operating power from the bus — no PSU, no function. See our PSU failure guide.

💾

Programming Loss

The button assignments, group addresses and scene triggers that make a keypad button "do something" are stored as programming in the C-Bus network. If this programming is lost or corrupted, buttons stop responding even though the hardware is fine.

🔌

Network Termination Fault

The C-Bus network requires correct termination at cable ends. A missing or incorrect terminator causes intermittent or complete communication failure for keypads on that segment. Common after renovations where cable runs are altered.

🔧

Failed Keypad Unit

Physical failure of the keypad unit itself — usually from moisture ingress, impact damage, or end of component life. We carry common Schneider C-Bus keypad units and can replace and reprogram on-site.

What to Do
Right Now

1

Check if other keypads are also affected

If multiple keypads have stopped, this is a PSU or network fault — not a keypad problem. Note how many and which areas are affected.

2

Don't try to reprogram yourself

Attempting to reprogram a C-Bus keypad without accredited software access can overwrite existing programming and make things worse. Leave the system as-is.

3

Don't replace the keypad yet

A dead keypad is rarely the keypad itself. Replacing it without diagnosing the real fault wastes money and leaves the actual problem in place.

4

Call for a same-day diagnosis

We identify the root cause with live network tools and fix it correctly the first time. Call 0422 469 739.

Quick
Answers

How do I know if the C-Bus power supply has failed versus something else?

The clearest sign of a PSU failure is that all or most switches go dead simultaneously. If only one zone is affected, the fault is more likely in that zone's relay output unit or wiring. If ghost messages preceded the outage, that's a PSU failure profile. We confirm on-site with voltage testing.

Can you replace a failed C-Bus PSU on the same day?

In most cases, yes. We carry common C-Bus PSU models including the 5500PSUA and 5500PSUAD. If your site has an older or unusual PSU model, we'll source it from Schneider's distribution network and return promptly.

How long do C-Bus power supplies last?

The rated capacitor lifespan is typically 10–15 years. Real-world service life varies with operating temperature, load, and environmental conditions. PSUs from 2004–2012 are now well past their rated lifespan and are actively failing across Sydney.

My C-Bus was doing random switching before it stopped — is that related to the PSU?

Yes. Random switching (ghost messages) is one of the classic symptoms of a degrading PSU. As the output voltage becomes unstable, corrupted data packets appear on the network and are interpreted as commands by relay units. This is the precursor to complete PSU failure.

What happens if I leave a failing PSU in service?

A failing PSU can continue to damage adjacent network units by feeding them unstable voltages over time. It can corrupt network addresses in active units and — in the worst case — a shorted PSU can create a low-impedance path that stresses or damages multiple units downstream.

Do you cover the whole of Sydney for C-Bus PSU replacement?

Yes — Greater Sydney including CBD, Eastern Suburbs, North Shore, Northern Beaches, Inner West, Sutherland Shire, St George, Hills District, Parramatta and Western Sydney.
