C-Bus systems installed around 2006 are now entering critical end-of-life. Power supplies are failing internally. Relay contacts are burning out and welding shut. Buttons are dying. Sensors are false-triggering — or not responding at all. Most owners don't find out until something fails completely.

Does Your System Need an Audit?

Tick every symptom you've noticed. We'll tell you how urgent it is.

3 or more symptoms — Your system is in active failure. Book an audit as soon as possible.
Your system is showing early warning signs. An audit now will prevent a much larger failure.
Your system may be operating normally — but if it's 15+ years old, a baseline audit is still worth considering.

20 Years of Wear Has
Predictable Failure Points

These aren't random faults. After two decades, every C-Bus installation develops the same pattern of failures — in the same components, in the same order.

🔋
Critical

Failing Internal Power Supplies

Capacitors inside DIN-rail PSUs degrade over 15–20 years. When they fail, entire C-Bus segments can drop offline — sometimes intermittently, which is far harder to diagnose than a complete outage.

random reboots, units dropping offline, flickering on startup
🔴
Critical

Relay Contacts Welded Shut — Channels Stuck ON

After 20 years of switching cycles, relay contacts weld shut. The channel stays permanently ON regardless of commands — burning energy continuously and creating a sustained heat risk in the enclosure.

loads that won't turn off, warm relay enclosures, unexplained energy use
Serious

Relay False Triggering

Worn relay coils and degraded PCB components cause outputs to fire without a command. Lights, fans, or HVAC zones switch on randomly — especially at night or during ambient temperature changes.

loads activating unexpectedly, occupant complaints, high energy bills
🔲
Serious

Failing Switch Buttons & Keypads

C-Bus switch buttons use mechanical domes rated for 50,000–100,000 cycles. At 20 years of daily use, most are past this. Buttons stop registering, stick, or double-trigger on a single press.

buttons needing hard presses, lights not responding locally, double-toggling
🌡
Serious

Sensor Failure & False Triggering

PIR and daylight sensor lenses cloud over time and PCBs drift out of calibration. Result: constant false triggering so lights never turn off, or complete non-response leaving rooms in permanent darkness.

zones never switching off, or rooms in darkness despite occupancy

Monitor

Burnt-Out Output Channels

Channels pushed beyond rated load over years develop high-resistance contacts. They appear to function but deliver reduced voltage — causing LED drivers to flicker, overheat, or fail prematurely downstream.

Dead Clock Batteries & Schedule Drift

Onboard CMOS batteries in C-Bus controllers last 10–15 years. With a dead battery, time-of-day logic drifts — schedules run at wrong times and astronomical clock calculations break entirely.

Network Bus Degradation

C-Bus cable and termination resistors develop impedance issues over two decades. Error rates climb and command response times slow — especially in sites that have had multiple retrofits over the years.

First Signs of Wear

High-cycle button units softening. PIR sensors starting to drift. First LED compatibility issues emerging. Faults managed reactively.

End-of-Life Failure Zone — You Are Here

Power supplies failing unpredictably. Relay contacts welding shut. Buttons unresponsive. Sensors false-triggering. Systems entering cascade failure mode where one fault stresses adjacent components. Proactive audit is critical now.

End-of-Life Zone

Every Failure Point.
Tested. Logged. Reported.

Our end-of-life audit is built specifically around the failure profile of ageing C-Bus systems — not a generic electrical inspection.

Power supply load & voltage testingEach PSU tested under load. Capacitor health and output voltage checked.
Full relay output test — every channelEvery relay commanded ON/OFF and physically verified. Welded contacts identified.
Switch & keypad button response testEvery button tested for actuation, registration, and double-trigger faults.
PIR & daylight sensor calibration checkEach sensor tested for false trigger rate, sensitivity drift, and dead zones.
Network bus signal integrity scanBus voltage, termination resistance, and error rates measured across the full network.
Clock battery & time-logic verificationController batteries tested. Scheduled events validated against correct current time.
Channel load & voltage drop testingOutput channels checked for high-resistance contacts and voltage drop under actual load.
EOL product cross-checkAll units checked against current Schneider/Clipsal discontinued product list. Obsolete units flagged.

Before You Book

My system seems fine — do I still need an audit?

"Seems fine" at 20 years usually means the obvious failures haven't occurred yet — not that there are no faults developing. Welded relay contacts, degrading power supplies and failing sensors typically operate in a degraded state for months before complete failure. An audit finds them before they cause a shutdown or safety incident.

Will the audit disrupt our building operations?

No. The audit is conducted with the system live and is entirely non-invasive. We test each component in sequence with minimal disruption. Specific areas can be scheduled during low-occupancy periods if needed.

Do we have to use you for the repairs?

No obligation. The written report is yours to use however you choose — book repairs with us, get quotes from other contractors, or plan a staged replacement on your own schedule. We include cost estimates so you can make an informed decision.

How do I know if my system is in the 2006 era?

Check the manufacture date stamped on your C-Bus units inside the switchboard. If your building was built or refurbished between 2004–2010, your C-Bus system is almost certainly in the end-of-life window now.

Can you supply replacement parts if units need replacing?

Yes. We supply and install Clipsal/Schneider C-Bus components. Where older units are discontinued, we'll identify compatible modern replacements that work with your existing network without requiring a full system replacement.

What's the difference between Basic and Standard?

The Basic package is a desk-based review of your network programming, scheduling, firmware, and EOL product status — no site visit. The Standard package includes a full on-site visit where we physically test every relay, PSU, switch, and sensor on your premises.
